BECOMING THE NEXT GENERATION OF SOCIAL INNOVATORS AND CHANGEMAKERS

“Sekolah kita kotor.”
“Banyak siswa masih membuang sampah sembarangan.”
“Teman saya kesulitan belajar.”

🧩 Contoh Nyata Kehidupan

📌 Contoh 1: Melihat Masalah sebagai Peluang

Di sekolah, banyak siswa membuang sampah sembarangan.

Sebagian orang hanya berkata:

“Siswa memang tidak disiplin.”

Namun, seorang changemaker akan berpikir lebih jauh:

Apakah tempat sampahnya cukup?
Apakah siswa memahami pentingnya kebersihan?

📌 Contoh 2: Membantu Teman Belajar

Seorang siswa melihat temannya mengalami kesulitan memahami pelajaran.

Ia tidak langsung berkata:

“Kamu malas belajar.”

Ia mencoba memahami masalahnya.

Mungkin temannya tidak memahami penjelasan guru. Mungkin cara belajarnya berbeda. Mungkin ia membutuhkan teman untuk belajar bersama.

Akhirnya, beberapa siswa membuat kelompok belajar sederhana.

  • Membagikan informasi edukatif.
  • Mengampanyekan kepedulian lingkungan.
  • Mengajak kegiatan sosial.
  • Membantu mempromosikan karya teman.
  • Menyebarkan pesan positif.

Teknologi hanyalah alat.

Pertanyaan yang lebih penting adalah:

“Untuk tujuan apa saya menggunakan teknologi?”

📖 Dalil & Penjelasan Islam

Allah SWT berfirman:

“Dan tolong-menolonglah kamu dalam kebajikan dan ketakwaan.”
QS.

Melihat → Memahami → Memikirkan → Mencoba → Mengevaluasi → Memperbaiki

Seorang changemaker tidak hanya melihat masalah.

Ia mencoba memahami akar masalahnya.

Ia tidak hanya memiliki ide.

Ia mencoba membuktikan apakah ide tersebut benar-benar bermanfaat.

Ia juga tidak takut gagal.

Jika sebuah ide tidak berhasil, ia bertanya:

“Apa yang bisa saya pelajari?”

Bukan:

“Saya gagal, jadi saya berhenti.”

A. Dari Masalah Menjadi Ide

Misalnya:

Masalah: Banyak siswa lupa membawa botol minum.

Pertanyaan: Mengapa?

Ide: Membuat kampanye membawa botol minum pribadi.

Masalah: Banyak siswa kesulitan memahami pelajaran.

Pertanyaan: Apa yang mereka butuhkan?

Ide: Kelompok belajar antarteman.

Masalah: Banyak buku bekas tidak digunakan.

Pertanyaan: Apakah buku tersebut masih bermanfaat?

Ide: Membuat program berbagi buku.

B. Tidak Harus Menunggu Dewasa

Sering kali kita berpikir:

  • Memulai kegiatan sosial sederhana.
  • Membantu teman belajar.
  • Mengkampanyekan kebersihan.
  • Membuat kegiatan peduli lingkungan.
  • Menggunakan media sosial untuk tujuan positif.
  • Mengembangkan ide yang bermanfaat bagi sekolah.

Yang penting bukan seberapa besar tindakan kita.

Pertanyaan yang lebih penting adalah:

“Apakah tindakan saya memberikan manfaat?”

Ia belajar bertanya:

Apakah cara ini masih efektif?

Apakah ada cara yang lebih baik?

Siapa yang terkena dampaknya?

Apa yang bisa kita lakukan?

Berpikir kritis bukan berarti selalu menolak.

Berpikir kritis berarti berani bertanya, memeriksa, mempertimbangkan, dan mencari solusi berdasarkan alasan yang jelas.

D. Dari Ide Menjadi Aksi

Gunakan langkah sederhana:

1. Identify

Temukan masalah.

2. Understand

Cari tahu penyebabnya.

3. Imagine

Pikirkan beberapa solusi.

4. Try

Coba solusi yang paling realistis.

5. Learn

Lihat apa yang berhasil dan tidak.

6. Improve

Perbaiki dan coba lagi.

Think → Try → Learn → Improve

Inilah proses menjadi seorang changemaker.

F. Perubahan Lebih Kuat Ketika Dilakukan Bersama

Perubahan tidak selalu harus dilakukan sendirian.

Satu orang mungkin memiliki ide.

Orang lain mungkin pandai berkomunikasi.

“You do not have to change the whole world. Start by changing one thing within your reach.”

Satu masalah → satu kepedulian → satu ide → satu tindakan → satu perubahan.

BECOMING THE NEXT GENERATION OF SOCIAL INNOVATORS AND CHANGEMAKERS

“Great change does not always begin with extraordinary people, but with people who care, think, and dare to start.”

Introduction

Every generation faces different challenges. Environmental problems, bullying, unequal access to education, irresponsible use of technology, and various social issues can be found around us.

Often, we notice these problems but stop at complaining.

“Our school is dirty.”
“Many students still throw rubbish everywhere.”
“My friend is struggling with schoolwork.”
“Social media is increasingly being used in negative ways.”

However, a future changemaker does not stop by asking:

“Why is this problem happening?”

They continue by asking:

“What can I do about it?”

This is where change begins.

Becoming a social innovator and changemaker does not mean that we have to change the whole world immediately. Change can begin in the places closest to us: ourselves, our classroom, our school, our family, and our community.

🧩 Real-Life Examples

📌 Example 1: Seeing Problems as Opportunities

At school, many students throw rubbish carelessly.

Some people simply say:

“Students are just irresponsible.”

But a changemaker thinks more deeply:

Do we have enough rubbish bins?
Do students understand the importance of cleanliness?
Are there clear rules?
Is the problem caused by habits or by the system?

These questions teach us that solving a problem should begin with understanding the problem first.

📌 Example 2: Helping a Friend Learn

A student notices that a friend is struggling to understand a lesson.

Instead of immediately saying:

“You are just lazy.”

the student tries to understand the problem.

Maybe the friend did not understand the teacher's explanation. Maybe they learn differently. Maybe they simply need someone to study with.

Eventually, several students create a simple study group.

A small problem becomes an opportunity to help one another.

Change often begins with caring about one person.

📌 Example 3: Using Technology for Good

Social media can be used only for entertainment, but it can also be used to create positive impact.

Students can use it to:

  • Share educational information.
  • Promote environmental awareness.
  • Encourage social activities.
  • Support and promote their friends' work.
  • Spread positive messages.

Technology is only a tool.

The more important question is:

“What am I using technology for?”

📖 Islamic Evidence & Explanation

Allah SWT says:

“Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves.”
Qur’an, Ar-Ra’d: 11

This verse teaches us that change requires effort. We cannot simply hope that a situation will become better without taking action.

Allah also says:

“And cooperate in righteousness and piety.”
Qur’an, Al-Ma’idah: 2

This verse teaches us the importance of working together for good.

A changemaker does not have to work alone. They learn to find people with different strengths and work together toward the same goal.

💬 Simple Explanation

Being a social innovator and changemaker does not mean having an extraordinary idea.

What matters more is the ability to:

See → Understand → Think → Try → Evaluate → Improve

A changemaker does not simply see a problem.

They try to understand the root cause of the problem.

They do not only have an idea.

They try to find out whether the idea can actually help.

They are also not afraid of failure.

When an idea does not work, they ask:

“What can I learn from this?”

rather than:

“I failed, so I should stop.”

A. From Problems to Ideas

Problems around us can become the starting point for innovation.

For example:

Problem: Many students forget to bring their water bottles.

Question: Why?

Idea: Create a campaign encouraging students to bring their own reusable bottles.

Problem: Many students struggle to understand certain subjects.

Question: What do they need?

Idea: Create a peer study group.

Problem: Many used books are no longer being used.

Question: Can these books still be useful?

Idea: Create a book-sharing program.

From these examples, we can understand:

Innovation is not always about creating something advanced. Innovation is finding a better way to solve a real problem.

B. You Do Not Have to Wait Until You Are Older

We often think:

“Maybe I can do something when I am older.”

But Grade 9 students can already do many meaningful things.

We can:

  • Start simple social activities.
  • Help friends with their studies.
  • Create cleanliness campaigns.
  • Organize environmental activities.
  • Use social media for positive purposes.
  • Develop ideas that benefit the school.

What matters is not how big the action is.

The more important question is:

“Does my action create a positive impact?”

C. Dare to Ask Questions and Think Critically

A changemaker does not always accept a situation by saying:

“That is just how things have always been.”

They learn to ask:

Is this method still effective?

Is there a better way?

Who is affected by this problem?

What can we do about it?

Critical thinking does not mean always disagreeing.

Critical thinking means being willing to ask questions, examine information, consider different possibilities, and look for solutions based on clear reasons.

D. From Ideas to Action

A good idea will not create change if it remains only an idea.

Use these simple steps:

1. Identify

Find the problem.

2. Understand

Find out what causes it.

3. Imagine

Think of possible solutions.

4. Try

Choose and test the most realistic solution.

5. Learn

See what worked and what did not.

6. Improve

Make changes and try again.

Think → Try → Learn → Improve

This is part of the process of becoming a changemaker.

E. Learning from Failure

Not every idea will work on the first attempt.

A program may not attract many participants.

A campaign may not get much attention.

An idea may turn out not to fit people's needs.

Does that mean we have failed?

Not necessarily.

Failure can provide useful information.

We can ask:

What did not work?

Why did it not work?

What should we improve?

With this mindset, failure becomes part of the learning process.

F. Change Becomes Stronger When We Work Together

Change does not always have to be created alone.

One person may have the idea.

Another may be good at communication.

Someone else may be good at design.

Another may be good at organizing activities.

Therefore, the strength of a team does not come from everyone having the same abilities.

The strength of a team comes from using different abilities toward the same goal.

That is why a changemaker should also learn to:

  • Listen.
  • Respect different opinions.
  • Share responsibilities.
  • Be accountable.
  • Handle differences respectfully.

💬 Inspirational Quote

“Do not just be someone who sees problems. Be someone who helps make things better.”

Or:

“You do not have to change the whole world. Start by changing one thing within your reach.”

🌟 Simple Conclusion

Becoming the next generation of social innovators and changemakers means becoming a generation that is:

caring,

critical-thinking,

willing to try,

ready to collaborate,

and responsible for creating positive change.

We do not have to wait until we are older, famous, or have many resources.

Change can begin with something very simple:

One problem → one act of care → one idea → one action → one change.

In the end, a changemaker is not someone who always has the answer.

A changemaker is someone who is willing to search for answers and brave enough to take the first step.
