🧭 Finding Your Direction: Passion + Skill
Before stepping through the gates of a new school, you must know who is doing the stepping. Interests are what you love to do, while talents are the innate potential that allows you to learn certain things faster and more easily. Choosing a senior high school is not about the school's prestige; it is about placing the right seed (yourself) into the right soil (the school environment).
Integrity and self-honesty are the ultimate foundational character traits needed in this phase. Discuss the following questions with your friends:
“If every job in the world paid the exact same salary, what activity would you still want to do every day for free?”
It becomes simple when you focus on the intersection of two things:
- Your Interests (What you love): The topics, hobbies, or activities that catch your attention naturally when you have free time.
- Your Talents/Skills (What you are good at): The tools you use easily—whether that is solving math equations, organizing events, fixing gadgets, writing, or listening to people.
The Golden Rule: A great career path isn’t just about making money, and it isn't just about playing video games all day. It is finding where what you love meets what you are good at. Your SHS track is the bridge that connects them.
- Activity: The 60-Second Brain Dump. Have students grab a scrap piece of paper. Give them exactly one minute to write down everything they love doing outside of school.
